Match Review

1st October 2000 Priory Celtic Green 1 v 0 Burton Joyce

On paper this match was going to be a very close affair, and close it certainly was. BJ had most of the play in the first half and spent most of the time pushing Priory back deep into their own half. Sam Smith hit the cross-bar after 10 minutes which was closely followed by two deep crosses which BJ failed to convert. Priory did have one close attempt but BJ 'keeper Tom Parkinson was quick off his line to gather the ball.

The half-time mood was pretty bouyant as we knew the opposition were getting rattled. The second half started much in the same way with Oliver Woodward having two good shots on goal, one was pushed round the post for a corner and the other produced a brilliant save from the Priory goal-keeper who frustrated us on more than one occasion during the game. About 10 minutes into this half BJ got a little out of shape and were caught off guard by a quick Priory attack which resulted in a goal. This was followed by another attack from Priory which was thwarted, but the clearance was cleverly hit back in and just flew inches over the bar.

The last 10 minutes of the half saw more pressure from BJ but despite a great team effort the equalising goal just did not come.

Verdict : A great performance by BJ on a pitch which was less than ideal. All in all we were really unlucky not to come away with at least a draw.

Manager's Comment : "Even though we lost I think this was our best performance of the season so far. I'm sure we can build on this further."

"Performance of the Week" awarded to Oliver Woodward - for his strong running through all of the game. Well Done Woody!
