Match Review
25th April 2001 Burton Joyce 1 v 1 East Leake Bantams
Scorer: James Clark
This Wednesday evening saw the last home match of the season. On the face of it the
weather looked very pleasant with some evening sunshine bringing out a good crowd. The boys
were in good mood and seemed up for the match. We lost to Bantams a few weeks ago in what
had been a cracking match.
BJ started with a fairly normal line-up and the side started well trading attacks with
the Bantams. After 5 minutes or so Sam Smith took the ball on and deftly beat three
players, having got into the box he slipped the ball sideways and James Clark was on
hand to side foot the ball into an empty net. BJ came close a few moments later when
James Bird passed the ball to Anthony Kefer who was unlucky to shoot just wide. East Leake were
not prepared to lie back though and they mounted some good attacking moves but both Chris Jackson
and Mathew Powroznyk were up to the task, they both have a powerful kick to drive the team forward.
The rest of the half saw plenty of end to end stuff but by now the sun had gone and the clouds
had gathered, soon the bright bolts of lightning where bringing oohs and aahs from the
crowd. Half Time 1-0 to BJ.
The second half started on the same way. BJ brought on Niels Hart and Tom Parkinson. However
before the half was many minutes old the ball was passed back to Jamie Gibbs who picked
it up. Penalty! The East Leake striker struck the ball well and the Bantams were even. At this
point the heavens opened but all credit to the crowd who stayed until the end despite getting
soaked. Both sides had chances in the remainder of the half, BJ came closest when the ball
was crossed in and three players missed the ball by a short distance. This was followed by
a super save from Daniel Roberts from a well struck shot. Try as they might neither team
could score again and the result ended 1-1. Both teams (and parents) were glad to get back
into the warmth for some food in the clubhouse. Thanks, East Leake, for a great game.
Verdict :
A good display by the team.
Manager's Comment :
"I thought this would be a good game as both teams play a similar style of football. Terrible
conditions but both teams battled hard, a draw was the fairest result."
Performance of the Week :
Tom Parkinson - Tom covered a lot of ground tonight in very tricky conditions. He also worked
very hard in training on Friday. Well Done Tom!!
