Match Review
19th November 2000 Netherfield Colts B 0 v 4 Burton Joyce
Scorers: Sam Smith(3), Anthony Kefer
After two weeks with no game the boys were certainly up for this one. Many factors
were going to make for an interesting match. The pitch was larger than ours, it was very
soft underfoot and there was a stiff breeze. BJ captain James Bird was advised by coach
Marco Kefer to go with the breeze in the first half if he won the toss. BJ played with
the wind behind them in the first half.
The team started in the same formation as the team which were sucessful against Gunthorpe,
they started briskly and after only 2 minutes BJ were 1-0 up after a well struck low shot
by Sam Smith hit the back corner of the net. BJ nearly went two up in the next minute
after the goalkeeper fumbled and Anthony Kefer was unlucky to hit just wide. Anthony was
involved soon after when he intercepted a goal-kick, turned and gave the ball to Sam
Smith who fired in his and BJ's second. One minute later James Bird tried to fox the
Netherfield goalkeeper with a cheeky chip, the goalkeeper, to his merit, parried the
ball and Anthony Kefer slotted home BJ's third goal and took his tally for the season
into double figures. Half-time 3-0.
The half time mood was bright but tired legs on the heavy pitch were understandably
beginning to take their toll. Manager Andy Parkinson decided to use the subs in the
second half to rest weary limbs. Netherfield has the better of the start of the second
half, maybe some of the changes had forced us out of shape a little. But BJ rode the storm
mainly due to some good stops from Jamie Gibbs in goal. In time, however, BJ started to get
back into the game again, Sam Smith hit one just over the bar and James Clark hit a couple
just wide. Eventually BJ went further ahead after a short goal-kick was picked up by Sam
Smith who scored making his hat-trick and his 16th in the league this season.
Verdict :
Another good result for BJ
Manager's Comment :
"I'm very pleased with the boys' performance this week. The pitch was very heavy. Its
also good to keep a clean sheet despite all the player changes we made. We're all now
looking forward to next weeks match against top of the table Gedling Town."
Performance of the Week :
Tom Parkinson - Tom made a brilliant contribution to the match by holding up the ball when
required and made some terrific through balls. Tom also worked hard during training. Well
Done Tom!!
